Andrew "Andy" P. Srodin

April 26, 1942 — May 16, 2020

SRODIN, ANDREW P. “ANDY”, 78, of Ridgewood, New Jersey died peacefully in his home on Saturday, May 16, 2020. He was born in Belleville, NJ on April 26, 1942, the second of Martin and Estelle Srodin’s three sons. Andy married the love of his life, Carol Cluska, on May 29, 1966, and they remained devoted to one another until her death in 2015.
Andy, a graduate of Ridgewood High School, attended Colby College before transferring into the Civil Engineering department at Newark College of Engineering, where he earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Andy was a college athlete, excelling on the soccer field where he was known to have a potent left foot, a skill he learned from his dad. Upon graduation, Andy became a registered professional engineer and enjoyed a distinguished career spanning structural design and construction, steel fabrication, power plant engineering, and as a municipal engineer in his later years. Occasionally, he was known to take a young engineer under his tutelage, among them his future son-in-law. Andy’s passion for steel and concrete was surpassed only by his affection for his wife, his daughters and his granddaughters.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Stephen Engler of Rutherford, NJ; daughter Sandra Lewis of Hawthorne, NJ; granddaughters Katerina and Natalia Engler, and Aubrey, Abigail and Melanie Lewis; brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Sharon Srodin of Philadelphia, PA; sister-in-law Barbara Srodin and nieces Larissa and Victoria Srodin of Queens, NY. Andy was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, his older brother, Martin Srodin, Jr., and his nephew, Martin D. Srodin.
Andy enjoyed a good cigar, marksmanship, cooking, surf fishing, spending time at the beach, walks with his dogs, and listening to the Beach Boys. Anybody who saw Carol and Andy on the dance floor would agree that watching them dance the polka was like watching an Olympic event. In recent years, his greatest enjoyment came from watching the many successes of his granddaughters.
A service celebrating Andy’s life will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Andy would appreciate donations to the animal rescue charity of your choice.
