BONURA, JOHN F., 89, of Lodi son of the late Christopher and “Fannie” Bonura, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2020 from natural causes.
Preceded in his death by his wife, the late Theresa “Chicky” (née Travaglio), his brother the late Salvatore “Sonny” Bonura and wife Patricia Bonura (nee….), and his loving sister, the late Dolores “Dee” Casey (nee Bonura).
John was a cherished Uncle and is survived by his brother in-law Thomas M Casey Jr husband of “Dee Casey”, his many nieces and nephews; Michele and Gary Cislo, Christopher Bonura, Thomas, and Anita Casey, Christene Ann Casey, Daniel and Maria Casey, Kathleen and Bill Krafton. He will be fondly missed by his great-nieces and great-nephews as well as his many other relatives, friends and community all who loved him very much.
John was a lifelong resident of Lodi. He served honorably in the United States Airforce, during the Korean conflict achieving the rank of Corporal. When he returned, he had many occupations including being the proprietor of Esso on S. Main St, the former superintendent of the Lodi DPW, and he was a long-time dedicated employee of Saddle River Tours. John loved to drive up and down the east coast and will be greatly missed by his ’Bus Driver Family’.
His Italian heritage was important to him and truly cherished those traditional Sunday dinners with family…of course, he knew where to get the best Italian food and would always bring the best Italian pastry!
John lived a full life and will be remembered for his charismatic personality. He had a great sense of humor and an optimistic view on life and loved the “ladies”! His pastimes included regular traveled to Florida and Hawaii with “Chicky” watching sports and especially football games. In his retirement, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and especially spending his mornings having breakfast, coffee, and conversations with his lifelong buddies.
Cremation was private.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 4th @ 10:00 AM @ St. Joseph's RC Church, Lodi. Inurnment will follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Lodi.
Due to the global pandemic, a Memorial Celebration and Repast will be held at a later date.
