MACFARLANE, RICHARD LENARD,92, of Ramsey, NJ formerly of Woburn MA, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, of a heart attack in Ramsey. Beloved husband of 63 years to Mary Jean (nee Rusby). Devoted father of Rick Scott. Cherished grandfather of Tyler, Nicholas, and Samantha.
Richard was born in Woburn Massachusetts to Coleman MacFarlane and Dorothy Christenson on 12-21-1927. He went to high school at Woburn High School and graduated in 1946. Richard went on to Navigation Coding from MIT for 10 months then enlisted in the United States Air Force on October 4th, 1946, and was honorably discharged on September 16th, 1949. Using the GI bill he attended the New England School of Art and went on to Pratt for advertising. Richard worked for Hodes Daniels Co. and Gelgisser Studios in which be purchased and rebranded as MacFarlane Remus Advertising the business he owned and operated until his retirement. He held the degree a Master Mason and was a lifetime member of the Art Directors Club in New York City. His passion was boating and was active in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. He received many awards from the Art Directors club Pascack Art Association and Coast Guard Auxiliary.
A Celebration of Life and Service officiated by Pastor Miller will be held on Saturday, May 1st, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Cornetta’s restaurant in Piermont, NY. Spreading of the ashes will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in either Mary Jean or Richard’s name to either the Ramsey Volunteer Ambulance Corps @ ramseyambulance.org/donate OR the Ramsey Police Department @ ramseypd.org/
A celebratory meal is being planned for after the services.
